The Stabat Mater, set by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736),
is a stunning baroque masterpiece. It offers us spiritual guidance, beautifully conveying the competing emotions of intense grief,
as Mary contemplates her son's sacrifice on the cross.
We remember the Last Supper at which Jesus instituted the Eucharist; the service includes the washing of feet and the stripping of the altar. There is then a vigil of prayer at the altar of repose until 10pm.
Join us for this ecumenical event when we process a cross up Warton Crag; during the walk we will hear bible readings and offer prayers. Gather at St Oswald's at 10.00am. Refreshments afterwards at Warton Methodist Church
