Getting here
Christ Church, Over Wyresdale is known as 'The Shepherd's Church' and is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty within North Lancashire with stunning views over the surrounding hills. We are a friendly, welcoming church which seeks to share the love of God with our local community and the wider world.
There has almost certainly been a church on this site since the fourteenth century or possibly earlier. Records show the existence of a chapel on the site in 1570; a faculty for the pulling down of this chapel and the building of a church was granted in 1733. Christ Church was restored in 1853 and again in 1894, this time by Philip, 4th Earl of Sefton. At this time three beautiful stained glass windows were inserted in the new chancel. All the windows in the nave were replaced under the auspices of the Sefton family; sheep form part of every scene depicted.
We look forward to welcoming you to our church and the beautiful area in which we live and work.
