About Us
We are a friendly and open church, welcoming everyone whether they are visiting us for the first or umpteeth time. Broadly traditional and middle of the road, we try to meet the spiritual needs of a wide and diverse congregation through a variety of services.
We follow a regular service pattern:-
1st Sunday 9:30 a.m. - Morning prayer, a lay led service.
2nd Sunday 9:30 a.m. - This is a traditional communion service.
3rd Sunday 9:30 a.m. - Sunday Worship, a less formal service.
4th Sunday 9:30 a.m. - This is a traditional communion service.
5th Sunday 10:00 a.m. - A benefice communion service in one of the 3 churches.
The monthly rota of services can be found at the "Services and Events" tab. When there is a fifth Sunday in the month, we share communion at 10 a.m. with our sister congregations in the joint benefice: Christ Church, Colne and St Mary's, Trawden. If you'd like to join us for one of these special services, please check to see which church we will be using. We have an active Sunday School which runs alongside and takes part in the Sunday services during term-time.
We have a number of house groups, run by parishioners in their homes. These include a Bible Study group and the more informal Knit and Natter. A pastoral care team makes home visits, for those unable to join us for worship in church.
We are a popular venue both for weddings and baptisms, the latter may take place either during the main Sunday service or can be held in a separate service. Please contact Karen Wilkinson (see the "Get in touch" page) to make arrangements for baptisms and weddings
Our church was built in 1905 and stands proudly beside the A56 on the road into the village from Colne. It is a magnificent setting overlooking Lake Burwains (also known as Foulridge Lower Reservoir). With only two stained-glass windows, it is light and airy, allowing God's glory to shine in and reflect the changing seasons and weather. The main church seats around 250, but we have a more intimate Lady Chapel which seats up to 20 for the smaller services.
Under the church we have a versatile Parish Room, complete with full kitchen and disabled facilities. This plays host to a wide variety of social events throughout the year, including a parish lunch on the last Wednesday of most months. Details of forthcoming functions can be found under the "Events" tab.
We are proud of our links to St Michael and All Angels CofE VA School, which is situated just a short distance away, also overlooking the Lake. The children play an important part in the life of our community.
Please do come and try us out - we'd love to see you.
