It was the tradition for Christians to visit their church on Shrove Tuesday to confess their sins and clean their soul, thus being shriven (absolved) before the start of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is the last day of the Christian liturgical season historically known as Carnival or Shrovetide before the penitentional season of Lent and people would indulge in foods they might give up in Lent.

Both our parishes enjoyed pancakes and the fun of racing as we tossed them in our pans!
