We heard the story of John Newton; how he was in the Navy and Captain of a slave ship that survived a terrible storm, that impacted Newton so much that he vowed to change his ways. Newton became an Ordained
Priest in the Church of England and a hymn writer. He was friends with William Cowper and together they wrote ‘Glorious things of Thee are spoken’. One of the hymns we sang together was ‘How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds’. We all enjoyed a delcious homemade lunch, cauliflower and brocoli soup, crusty bread and butter, lemon sponge and custard, tea/coffee.
