This Advent and Christmas at St Paul's has been exceptionally busy, with over one tenth of the population of Adlington coming through the doors of St Paul's at some point during December. Many more were involved through online engagement and carol-singing in the local pubs.The month kicked off with our now traditional Christmas Lights switch-on, followed by carol-singing and hot chocolate. As the month went on, there were several primary school carol services, including pupils from St Paul's and from Adlington Primary School. There were also Advent meditations and a church carol service. The parish Christmas lunch was well attended, and many members of the congregation enjoyed the carol-singing pub crawl, during the course of which, we visited 8 establishments.Christmas Eve was busy, with 500 people attending the 5 services which were held, and even Christmas morning attracted a good congregation.We would like to thank the people of Adlington for their support of our events this Christmas, and we look forward to seeing even more of you next year!
We were delighted to welcome Bishop Philip to confirm seven candidates at a lovely service at on Thursday 7th July. Around a hundred people attended to show their support and to offer prayers as these people made this important step in their Christian journey. Afterwards, Bishop Philip celebrated mass, and the newly-confirmed received their first communion.The Mass was followed by a big party in the church club, with food, and two wonderful cakes provided by members of the congregation. We were delighted to host the annual Adlington Civic Service on 25th June. We welcomed the new Mayor, Councillor Nina Buckley, The Speaker, The Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Adlington Town Councillors, and other local mayors and councillors, as well as youth organisations.The party paraded into church accompanied by the Rivington and Adlington Brass Band, who then played for the service as well. Fr Graeme preached on the importance of doing one's duty and serving the community.The service was followed by a reception in the club, at which Civic Awards were presented to some of the many people who are active in our community.
