Baptism or Christening

Whether you’re simply exploring the possibility of a christening or you’ve already decided, we will be delighted to hear from you. You can always have the christening in a local church.

Who can get baptised?

Anyone at any age can get baptised. For babies and young children, it is a decision made by their parents. For older children, teenagers and adults, it is a decision made by them to join the Christian family.

Where doers a baptism take place?

Usually baptisms take place in your local church or one with which you have connections.

How is a baptism arranged?

You may have a chat with one of the ministers who take services in your local church or a Churchwarden, and then complete the attached form, or you can simply start the process by completing the form and sending it to our Benefice Administrator.

A priest will get it in touch and arrange to meet you, to talk through the service and to help answer any questions you may have.

When do baptisms take place?

Baptisms can most easily be arranged for the second Sunday of the month in the afternoon (generally between 1:30 and 3pm). Alternatively, a Baptism may be take place within a normal Sunday morning service, subject to the schedule of services and who is leading particular services (many services are led by people who are not priests, but only a priest can do a Baptism). Please do not give a date to family and friends until it has been confirmed by our Rector or Benefice Administrator.

You can find out more about christening  (often called 'baptism') here.

To arrange a christening, it would be really helpful if you download and complete the form below, so the priest has all the information to hand.
