Getting your child Baptised in our churches
We are delighted that you are planning to have your child Baptised (also known as being Christened), and we look forward to welcoming you and all your family and friends into church for such a special occasion.
As you consider a date and time for your child’s baptism, please note that Baptism services always happen on a Sunday. We love to welcome children and families into our main Sunday services, but we are equally happy to plan a private service just for you. It is important that the service is right for you and your family and friends. Please do have a think about this and let us know your preferences.
Once a date has been confirmed, the Priest taking the service will get in touch with you to arrange to meet with you. We would also like to invite you to one of our Baptism preparation sessions. We run these sessions regularly throughout the year, and they are an opportunity for us to talk through some of what you can expect at a Baptism service, as well as being able to meet with Godparents and talk through any questions or special requests you may have.
As you consider who may take on the role of Godparents for your child, we ask you to consider the promises that they will be making on your child’s behalf. As Godparents are making the Baptismal promises on behalf of your child, they must also have been Baptised / Christened into a Christian Church. If you need to discuss this then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please see attached a copy of the Baptism service, particularly so that you can invite potential Godparents to have a look at the promises they will be making. It is recommended that children normally have 3 or 4 Godparents.
If you would like to go ahead with your Baptism / christening please get in contact with our admin team at [email protected]. We are happy to provided any information or answer any question you might have.
