Our much-loved local landmark, the beech tree which towers over St Mary's Church, has shed two huge limbs. Fortunately this caused no damage to the church or church yard monuments. The tree remains healthy and has been made safe by professionals, but the work has cost £900. This unexpected and significant outlay has come just as we are hoping to move forward with our building repairs. If you can make use of some wood, which will need to be dried for use in log burners etc, or chippings for your garden, we will be grateful for a donation to help meet this sum in return. Please take what you need but leave some for others. With a small contribution from a good number of people we can offset the cost.Payment can be made using the Give now button on the home page or in person through your usual Church contact. Thank you in advance.
The cracked wall above the beautiful stained glass Easter Window must be repaired urgently to stop further damage to St Mary's South Transept. This area of the church houses the Lady Altar and Children's Area. The window depicts the empty tomb - an angel tells the women that Jesus is no longer in the tomb following his resurrection on Easter morning.By making a donation you can help to save the window for future generations to enjoy. You will also be contributing to the development of the church by improving the established Children's Area - currently looking a little run down due to the damp and crumbling plaster. The planned re-plastering and repainting will significantly improve this part of the building. The work is expected to cost in the region of £20,000. Some of this has already been raised and grant funding is being sought. Please make a donation by downloading the QR code or head to St Mary's Chedzoy South Transept Repair Appeal - Give A Little
Caring for God's Acre - the conservation charity for Burial Grounds across the UK - encourages communities to explore nature and wildlife to be found in burial grounds. They have provided a copy of their clearly illustrated guide book to the flora, fauna and architectural features to be found in churchyards. This is available to borrow from the children's corner in church. The wild flowers that had overrun the flower beds were allowed to bloom in Spring before the Tidy Up. Thanks to Lonsdale Pant Nursery in Chedzoy Lane for discounted bedding plants and to great support from the community who gave up their Saturday morning, the Church's front garden was cleared of tall stray grasses and took on a more formal look, allowing the famous lavender to take centre stage in the borders.
