Wookey Church is dedicated to St Matthew, one of Jesus’ disciples. He collected taxes for the Romans so, he wasn’t popular with everyone, but went on to write the first of the gospels. Join us as we celebrate St Matthew’s Day, and hold the Wookey Duck Race! 2pm: Wookey Community Choir sing
2:30pm: First Duck Race. 3:15pm: Local drummers perform.
2-4pm: tours of the tower to enjoy amazing views of Wookey, local art exhibition celebrating 'Beautiful Somerset', and stalls to enjoy! Such as: buying ducks for the races, bottle tombola, chocolate tombola, homegrown stall, drinks and cake stall! Plus, weather permitting skittles and hook-a-duck! We really hope that you'll come along to this wonderful event for all-ages to have fun and help to raise some money for Wookey Church.

Welcome to our page on A Church Near You!

St Matthew's Church is a beautiful church in the village of Wookey, near Wells. We are part of a group of 3 churches and 4 parishes, known as a benefice, which are looked after by Revd Jan Shellard-James.

There are services almost every Sunday, except during some months on the third Sunday of the month. Also if there is a 5th Sunday in a month, a service might take place at a different church in the benefice. There is also a weekly Holy Communion service which is held every Wednesday. You are very welcome to come to any of our services or events, and details of these can be found on this website, or on our own website www.chwchurches.co.uk There are also more details about the this church and the benefice on our website.
