Come along and try bellringing! The bellringers practice every Wednesday, and new people are always welcome! Many people in Wookey greatly enjoy hearing the bells ringing out on Wednesday evenings. Please be aware that there is a spiral staircase to climb to reach the bell chamber. Do you enjoy gardening and have an hour or two to spare? If so we'd love to have your help to remove some brambles and help with other weeding in the churchyard.

Wookey Church are committed to making the churchyard a good place for local wildlife. Some plants traditional viewed as ‘weeds’ are good pollinators for bees and other insects, so we will give directions for weeding on the day. Please could you bring your gardening tools with you. There will be refreshments to enjoy afterwards.

Join us for meditation/ silent prayer, which is a universal spiritual tradition. Meditation takes us to the depths of our being, to our true self and to the pure experience of God in the ground of our being. Afterwards stay for coffee and tea and a chance for a chat.

The Bible can seem like a confusing assortment of events, poems and wise words. The Bible Course explains how the parts of the Bible come together to reveal an eternal God who keeps his promises.

Over 8 sessions we will journey through the sections and events of the Bible, and introduce key characters. Each session of The Bible Course uses video and discussions, but no prior knowledge is required and a course book is available. Come and join us in Wookey Churchyard by the River Axe for a really fun evening for all of the community! There'll be food, bar, games and a range of stalls (Cakes/ Homegrown/ tombolas and more) opening from 5pm. Plastic ducks race down the River Axe for 5 races, with local businesses providing the prizes. First race is at 5:30pm. Ducks are £1 per race. Money raised goes to Wookey Church. Please bring cash with you.

Wookey Church is named after Saint Matthew’s and we’ve holding a special Open Day which all of the community is invited to attend.

Ever wondered what the view is from the top of the church tower? Join a free tower tour to see part of St Matthew’s which is normally off limits. Outside, we’re holding a treasure hunt for children with nature activities explore how the churchyard supports local wildlife. Inside, there’s a self-guided Walking Tour around the church showing some interesting historical features. There’s an I-Spy Quest for children to enjoy too. Want to just relax? Come and enjoy tea and cakes, and listen to a performance by Choirworks! All donations are welcome, to help us maintain this historic church, and benefit the local community.
