Deepen your faith in this short course by using paintings from The National Gallery. We are going to be holding a 6 week course looking at the story of the first half of the Bible: the Old Testament. Each week we’ll look at a different painting and focus on a different event as described in the Bible. The course will be held in Henton Church on Thursday evenings for the first two sessions in September, and will then be held in a private home in Henton for the remaining four sessions during October and November. Join us for a traditional and musical evening service.

This is a beautiful service, which uses service booklets so that you know which parts the minister says, and which parts the congregation say aloud. One of the main parts of the service is the Psalm for the day, which is either said aloud or sung. This is followed by readings from the Bible, including the joyous words of the Virgin Mary when she learned she would give birth to Jesus, and the heartfelt words of Simeon, when he recognises the Messiah when he meets Jesus. The service ends with prayers: the Lord's Prayer, the prayer for the day, a prayer for peace and a prayer for help against troubles. There are four hymns which are sung during the service, and a a short talk too.

Each week we’ll look at a different painting and focus on a different event as described in the Bible. This is a great continuation of the earlier course, but can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone course.
