During Lent we will look at paintings telling the Easter story, with space for Bible commentary and discussion. We’ll be discussing the film “The Way,” in which a group of people walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. As they journey, they are changed and this course examines different aspects of “Salvation”. It poses the questions: What are we saved from? What are we saved for? Join us for a worship service for all-ages. This is a great service to attend if you are new to Church or interested in Christianity, as it has an informal style.

Join us for a traditional and musical evening service.

This is a beautiful service, which uses service booklets so that you know which parts the minister says, and which parts the congregation say aloud. One of the main parts of the service is the Psalm for the day, which is either said aloud or sung. This is followed by readings from the Bible, including the joyous words of the Virgin Mary when she learned she would give birth to Jesus, and the heartfelt words of Simeon, when he recognises the Messiah when he meets Jesus. The service ends with prayers: the Lord's Prayer, the prayer for the day, a prayer for peace and a prayer for help against troubles. There are four hymns which are sung during the service, and a a short talk too.

January's a time when we usually think about New Year's Resolutions. This is a 4 week course exploring what it means to enact positive change in your life. Over 4 weeks you will explore the topics of looking after your body, strengthening your mind, inspiring your soul and deepening your relationships. Each week you will reflect on what various experts have to say about making positive change, engage in conversations with others on the course and identify some simple exercises that you can try. Over 3 weeks the course focuses on art telling Old Testament Bible stories. Based on a book by Revd Nicholas Holtam of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, which explores the power of art to capture us and transport us beyond ourselves. Revd Nicholas finds that viewing art removes many boundaries to engaging with the Bible. Many of the paintings in the National Gallery are of Christian subjects and were created as devotional pieces for places of worship or people’s homes. Paintings of Biblical events encourage us to join the journey of former generations in getting to know God. Each week will focus on a single painting, encouraging you to look and think about it, and there will be commentary and a prayer linked to each painting.
