About Us

We are a church built in late Victorian times for Anglo-Catholic worship, a tradition which has always been followed over the years. We seek to welcome and include all to our services as we develop this style of worship in a more modern catholic style. We are currently in vacancy so will try and have a Eucharist service each Sunday, but where this is not possible, we will still come together for Morning Prayer.

The church was built in 1878 in a 15th Century style on the outskirts of the town to serve the anticipated growth in housing and population. The building is set back from the road with a grass surround, trees and parking area. Subsequently housing and population have increased enormously and continue to do so.

Built of local sandstone in traditional style it has a tower housing one bell. Entrance to the building is by the south side under the tower with a north door providing disabled access. The interior is light and airy with pews located either side of the main aisle and also with two side aisles. The building is capable of seating a congregation of 500. There is a Lady Chapel on the south side which is used for weekday services. A small kitchen area and toilet are located at the back of the north side of the building. The choir and high altar are ascended by steps.

The church has good heating, lighting and sound system. All facilities for the disabled are in place.

The only graves in the graveyard are for the Founders and are situated behind the Lady Chapel. They are also commemorated within the church with stained glass windows by Kempe.
