Psalms: The Language of Prayer
The book of Psalms has often been called ‘the prayer book of the Bible’. In this study of the Psalms, we are going to explore the breadth of prayers reflected in the book—from songs of exuberant praise to bitter lament when the world seems to be falling apart. The book of Psalms reflects the true variety of human experience in all its various highs and lows, and our goal is to show how we can bring all of our lived experience into conversational communion with God. Because God wants our hearts, we want to learn to think and feel in tune with the Psalms. What makes the book of Psalms unique in the Bible is the way that it shows us how to bring all of life into relation with the sovereign God. In this three-month long induction into the Psalms, our aim is to better learn the language of prayer.

Advent

We follow the lectionary readings through the season of Advent—from the call to be ready and alert for Christ’s return, to Mary’s humble surrender to the saving purposes of God for the world in and through her.
