Bell ringing
We welcome bell ringers to our church and enjoy the wonderful, uplifting sound you make.
The Bell Tower contains a ring of six bells. The diameter of the tenor bell is 39 1/4”. The five largest bells were recast at the Loughborough foundry in 1868, the treble was added in 1870. They are hung in a two tier metal frame installed by Messrs. J Taylor and Company in 1953. An inscription on a tablet on the north wall of the tower tells us that the restoration of the bells was carried out during the coronation year 1953 by Mrs C F M Gadesden of Homend in memory of members of her family.
There were four medieval bells, almost identical in size with the four largest now in the tower. Their dimensions are recorded in an inventory dated 25 May 1553.
