What I am about to tell you is not so much a story as to give a ‘thumbnail sketch’ of the lives of the Gwillims, a family that established itself in Putley in the Middle Ages and remained here in this rural corner of Herefordshire over successive centuries until the late 1950s, when my grandparents moved to another village, albeit just a few miles away.
