About Us
Welcome to St George’s Church, Pontesbury, Shropshire, England.
Pontesbury is a large rural village in Shropshire. The village is located about 8 miles southwest of Shrewsbury. Pontesbury is linked to the nearby village of Minsterley by the A488 road.
For a small village, with a population of around 3,500, the church is large, and has a medium sized, friendly congregation. We are part of the Pontesbury and Stiperstones Benefice, and sometimes worship together in each others' churches.
The origins of St George’s church can be traced to about 1250, but the church was largely restored in the 19th century.
St George's extends a warm welcome to all visitors and is open to all during daylight hours, but is closed at night.
We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and are well worth a visit, and have local shops nearby, to stock up on picnic items for exploring the hills afterwards. You can find us on the Shropshire Churches Tourism Group here .
