At the back of our church is a box which we keep stocked with Prayer Squares. These are made by a member of our congregation who as she knits each row says a prayer for the person who takes and keeps the square. Anyone who feels in need of support or comfort is welcome to take one of these squares, and we hope that as they carry it with them it will help to sustain them through whatever difficulties they have to cope with.
This work is part of the ministry of the Holy Knitting group set up by our Rector. As well as the Prayer Squares, the group makes a Prayer Shawl for every baby baptised in the benefice's churches, felted hearts for couples getting married, little teddy bears for the brothers and sisters of babies being baptised, and Prayer Scarves for people who we know are in particular need of prayer support. These gifts are always very much appreciated, and have become an increasingly important part of our ministry with baptism families and in pastoral work.
Other projects for the group include knitted and crocheted poppies for Remembrancetide, little angels for Christmas, and green hearts for the Climate Change "Show the Love" campaign.
