Much Birch: St Mary & St Thomas a Becket
Welcome to the church with two dedications! Yes, we have both St. Mary, a traditional dedication dating back to the founding of our church back in the mists of time but probably around the 9th C and St. Thomas Becket, who was also known as "The Man for all Seasons" in the play and film of the same name. At some stage in the 1400s, as best we can determine, someone went on pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral, was healed and had a special carving done to go on the preaching cross in the churchyard. This was rediscovered in the 1990s when a grave was being dug.
We underwent a modernisation in the early 2000s and recently have refurbished the Victorian glass in the East End, which is well worth a visit.
