Getting here

St Andrew's Church is situated in the centre of the small Shropshire village of Hope Bowdler, itself located in the heart of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a Grade 2 Listed Building. It is part of a four-church Benefice together with churches in Cardington, Rushbury and Eaton.

This is a living church, which has met the spiritual needs of its community; in its present form, since 1863, and before that since the 13th century.

The church boasts a robed choir, and offers a Holy Communion Service, led by the choir, on the first three Sundays of each month. In addition, it offers a Morning Prayer Service, again led by the choir, on the fourth Sunday of each month, and a short spoken Holy Communion Service on the first Wednesday of each month. Details of times and dates can be found elsewhere on this website.

In addition, the church is generally open during daylight hours every day, and visitors, including the many walkers who pass this way are welcome to come inside the church, or rest in the porch or on the benches within the churchyard. If you find on arriving that it is closed, and you particularly wish to view the interior, please phone churchwarden Norman Wallace 01694 722016.

The church has a peal of six bells which are occasionally rung.

The church has many interesting features being particularly noted for its stained-glass windows, and for having the only coffin stone in Shropshire, and one of very few in England.

A detailed guide to the church and its churchyard is available in the church - price £1. This will take visitors on a journey through both.
