If you have visited St John's you will know that the position high up above the road is rather a problem for getting up to the church: you are confronted with 3 flights of steep steps – daunting! Now this difficulty has been recognised and we are thankful to have been awarded a grant by Garfield Weston Foundation to put in a fully accessible path. Work is not far off finished - just the finishing touches to add. As you will see if you have visited, the path will zig-zag through the churchyard with a suitable gradient for wheelchairs, and those whose mobility is limited; there will be handrails where needed. We are also going to put up a new noticeboard so more people spot the church as they go through Doddington. It’s taken a long time and lots of hard work to get to this point; our next aim is to put in an accessible toilet and small catering area; Shropshire Historic Churches Trust have kindly promised us a grant towards this, but we need more funds to reach our target – if you would like to help us we would be most grateful - you can make a donation on our homepage.
