We are delighted to announce that we have achieved funding for our £351,000 exciting heritage project, Beacon on the Hill, having received confirmation of a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £170,554. This allows us to start a project for which an amazing array of grants have been awarded including £137,150 by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on activities for all and making the building a valuable community asset for the future. Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, UKSPF and other grant bodies as well as through fundraising in the community, the project will deliver a programme of activities, talks, workshops and events open to all to capture, celebrate and share the local heritage. Working with the community, local schools, groups such as Cleobury Mortimer Men’s Shed, and local artisans, to create new heritage interpretation within the church and for visitors to Titterstone Clee Hill, St John’s will also appoint an Artist in Residence to weave through all the activities of the project and produce a Song of the Hill for performance by a variety of groups and voices. Community facilities will also be created - accessible toilet, kitchen area, seating & wheelchair access along with self-service fresh coffee & food, and the church’s heritage conserved through repairs. Volunteers will be invited to take part in this project, being offered training, from visitor welcome to research skills and first aid. The other grants which St John’s are grateful to have confirmed are £5,000 each from Laslett's Charities & Churches Pilgrimages Trust, £5,200 from Benefact Trust, £3,000 from Shropshire Historic Churches Trust, £2,100 from Shropshire-based Connexus , and £2,500 from Rowlands Trust, all this added to their own fundraising.Through all this St John's will become more sustainable as an organisation and the building will be strengthened as a valuable community asset for the future while retaining the worship space.
