Stained Glass

We have two beautiful stained glass windows at St Cuthbert's.

The Chancel East Window by Hardman, 1885, is a memorial to Constance Ida Thomas, who died in 1884 in childbirth. whilst her husband was serving in India. It depicts Saints linked with her birth, life, and death: John, Ambrose, Thomas and Cuthbert. The upper part of the window contains some ancient fragments, including two faces from the 15th century.

The north window in the nave was erected in 1970 in memory of Margaret Ellen Vaughan of Abcott Manor, which stands in sight of the church across the River Clun. It depicts the Church, Abcott manor, the River, and a flock of Clun Forest sheep. The Vaughan family was closely connected with the founding of this local breed. The quotation is from Thomas a Kempis "Without the way, there is no going"
