Bellringing

The tower has six bells .  Bellringing has restarted at Chetton in June 2023, and a thriving band is in place, with bells being rung regularly for services etc.  Please do contact the Benefice Office on 01746 599217 if you would like to join in.

The Tower was rebuilt by John Smallman in 1829. It has lancet windows and houses six bells; a treble, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and a tenor.

All, except the 4th, were cast in 1827; the treble, 2nd and 3rd by John Rudall, the 5th and tenor by John Taylor. The 4th bell was recast in 1938, also by John Taylor. This was completed in the time of Rev’d R.B.Southwell, rector of the Parish from 1909 to 1953.

The inscriptions on the bells are as follows:-

Treble - Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts
2nd - Heaven and Earth are full of thy Glory
3rd - Glory be to thee, O Lord on high
4th - King of Kings and Lord of Lords
5th - I will extol Thee, my God and King
Tenor - I will praise Thy name for ever and ever
