St. Mary's is the parish church of the Ancient Parish of Penwortham and dates from the 14th century. Although located in an urban area its setting is very attractive being in the midst of ancient woodland. The Chancel dates from the 14th century and the Tower dates from the 15th century. The Nave was rebuilt and enlarged in the 19th century. The church has 2 communion services on a Sunday and a communion service every Thursday morning. The church is open for visitors on Thursdays all year round. We have an active Junior Church and music group.
Our church re-ordering project is now complete and we returned to church over the weekend of 17th, 18th and 19th June 2011. We have installed under-floor heating, removed pews and replaced them with chairs and carried out repairs to the outside of the church. This meant that the church was been closed for almost 2 years. During that time services were held in our Church Hall on Cop Lane PR1 0SR.
Please see the picture album to see how our church looks both from the outside and the inside.
