Fortified by hot dogs, apple cake and mulled wine, Julian Godlee (bass) and Brenda Blewett (piano), took us on a metaphorical frosty and melancholy journey in Cley church with a moving performance of the song cycle "Wintereisse" by Franz Schubert. The song cycle is a setting of 24 poems by German poet Wilhelm Müller composed almost entirely in minor keys. This performance was enhanced by images of winter scenes relating to each of the songs.Thank you Julian and Brenda and also thanks go to those involved in the organisation and catering.
This excellent short film, created by Barney Broom, and includes an interview with Desmond McCarthy & Emma Bridgewater. We're very grateful to all of them for their support. A number of benefactors and trusts have already donated or pledged to support this restoration, and we're also applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund. But we're trying to raise at least another £25,000 through this Crowdfunding initiative. There are also rewards, including an exclusive Emma Bridgewater mug for anyone donating £100 or more. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/save-wiveton-church
