A Service for Advent

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
Great Ryburgh Church with Little Ryburgh & Testerton
Address
Bridge Road / Mill Road / Station Road intersection Great Ryburgh Norfolk, NR21 0EB, United Kingdom

The service is structured around the seven Great Antiphons, known as the Great ‘Os’. They were sung originally at Vespers from 17th to 23rd December as Antiphons to the Magnificat. Each antiphon begins with a metaphor, a Scriptural title for the coming Messiah, the Christ. They speak of hope, expectation and the Promised One, providing a rich source of devotional imagery. The Antiphons are gathered together in the well known final hymn, O come, O come, Emmanuel. Their origin is unknown but they go back at least as far as the ninth century, linking us with Christians from many years ago.
A meditative service with the traditional Advent hymns. Please come and join us!
