ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S NEEDS YOUR HELP
Church Restoration
Restoration and repair of St. Bartholomew’s which is a Grade One listed medieval building costs thousands, over the last few years maintaining the building has been a major fund raising effort by a small team of people in Brisley. Just keeping the church going on a day-to-day basis including a proper maintenance schedule typically costs £13,000 a year and we receive no regular help from outside the parish.
Until now we have managed with support from village fund raising events and an occasional charity grant but we now have just discovered that, after being patched up over several years, the South Aisle roof is about to fall in. Although we have had it made safe, it will have to be largely replaced and the total repair plus the replacement of drains (which are completely broken and causing so much damp in the church they have contributed to the damage to the roof) will be about £300,000. Sadly, although the roof is safe for now, it is still leaking and is causing further damage to valuable wall paintings and medieval painted timbers.
Any donation, small or large, is gratefully received and all of the money will go to maintain Brisley’s unique and beautiful building.
