Worshippers from the three small parishes of Eccles, Wilby and Quidenham gathered for a Service of the Word this morning, led by Peter Lotarius. In his address he explained the origins of Mothering Sunday. This is a day to honour mother churches, the church where one is baptised and becomes 'a child of the church', celebrated since the Middle Ages on the fourth Sunday in Lent. On Mothering Sunday, Christians have historically visited their mother church. More recently the day has become more commercial and is often known as Mothers' Day.
Posies created by ladies from All Saints, Wilby and by Heather Doig from St Andrew's Quidenham, were handed out to all members of the congregation, as well as for distribution to relatives and neighbours.
