Quidenham Burns Night Supper took place at the Cowshed (by kind permission of the Carmelite Monastery) on Saturday 25th January. Forty-five people joined in the fun and the haggis was appropriately serenaded into the building. Gaelic poems were said and guests enjoyed canapés including Scottish smoked salmon, then haggis, neeps and tatties and a selection of Scottish puddings including Cloutie Dumpling and Cranachan (or Atholl Brose). Practically everyone in the room won a prize in the raffle which rounded off the evening!
We remembered in particular, those US servicemen and women stationed all over Norfolk between 1943 and 1945. These include the 96th Bomb Squadron, part of the US Eighth Airforce, stationed at Snetterton Airfield, very close to the village of Quidenham. The names of villagers who served in both World Wars were read out and the two minutes' silence observed. We were very happy to welcome visitors from the US Airbase at Mildenhall and we all enjoyed good chats over wine and food afterwards.Lest we forget.
The Harvest Supper took place at the Cowshed near the monastery in Quidenham. A delicious meal was served with a free glass of wine and lots of donated bottles. There was a big raffle with lots of lovely prizes.
