"Mission Possible" Learning Community
This will be a space where we come together monthly for nine months to share ideas, eat cake, pray for each other's churches and initiatives and listen to God with and for each other. Some months we'll have an outside speaker to bring a fresh perspective (and fill gaps in my own experience); for the first I've asked Rev'd Susie Templeton to come and chat about mission & pioneering, whilst valuing the sacramental tradition. Susie is the pioneer minster next door in Kerrier Deanery, is a fellow CMS pioneer and is inspirational.
For some churches the content of each session may at first not seem that relevant (for example a more evangelical church tradition may not see the connection between mission and the sacraments as as important as others of differing traditions). However, the idea of committing to nine months together is so we engage with all sorts of things that we may not be familiar with, or that may challenge us all (especially me), and at the end have a deep sense of unity in diversity as we develop a renewed (not necessarily new) sense of missional direction. We've got lots to learn from each other's traditions and experiences. Some of the fastest growing churches in the world are in Iran, China and the Roman Catholic church in South America and parts of Asia. In January we will be looking at the similarities that exist in these contexts and what we can learn from them in our own, as whilst all contexts are unique, the character of God is the same.
Each session will be held at Fairwinds, run from 7 - 9 pm and will be on the following Tuesdays
7th November, 12th December, 16th January, 20th February, 19th March, 16th April, 21st May, 18th June.
