Accessibility at St Peter's

Church_news News_about_our_building
The PCC of St Peter's has been reflecting on how accessible our church is to those of differing abilities. A sub-group, led by me (Alan Morgan), has undertaken an accessibility audit, which has highlighted potential actions we can take to ensure that our building is a welcoming space where everyone can move around easily. We are at the stage where we want to let you know a few of the things that we are working on.

Initially, we are addressing the basic issue of the entrance to the church, which is not the easiest for those with mobility challenges. We are receiving plans to install a permanent ramp at the South Door, to enable step-free access into the church. We are also aware that the gravel paths are challenging for those with walkers or in wheelchairs, and we will be substituting part of the gravel driveway and paths with a porous resin bound gravel surface. This will be smooth and more suitable for wheelchairs and walkers, while retaining the look of the paths and easy access for vehicles. We will also be looking to improve the external lighting.

These are our initial steps - there are more considerations in the pipeline which we will share as we get further along with the project. Our focus is on ensuring that all who want to access our building and our worship can do so without feeling that there are challenges or hurdles to their access.
