About Us
The Upper Wensum Benefice is a group of villages south of Fakenham, either side of the main Dereham Road.
The name is from the River Wensum that has its beginnings here from local springs and brooks, spiralling out clockwise as it runs. The Wensum proceeds through Fakenham and onwards south-east to Norwich, beside the cathedral.
Our logo features a spiral representing the Wensum, and the Saxon wheel-head cross - Norfolk's only such example - which can be seen on display at Whissonsett Church. The logo also shows a mirror image of the marble angel that stands tall at Little Ryburgh church ruin site, where we hold our annual benefice Easter Sunrise Service.
