Coggeshall and United Parishes
Recently the local parishes of Coggeshall, Marks Hall, Cressing, Stisted, Bradwell-juxta-Coggeshall and Pattiswick and all the churches in it (St Peter ad Vincula, St Nicholas, St Barnabas, All Saints Cressing, All Saints Stisted and Holy Trinity Bradwell) have been joined together into a 'benefice' (which means a group of associated churches).
That's a bit of a mouthful and so now we are changing our name to:
‘Coggeshall And United Parishes’.
The acronym CAUP in archaic English means:
‘A gift given to ones' master in return for ones' keep and protection’.
So a more up-to-date interpretation would be:
‘We are a gift and we offer ourselves to God and in Service to our Parishes'.
