Benefice of East Lonsdale
The Benefice of East Lonsdale is the largest in the Diocese of Blackburn. It is situated partly in The Forest of Bowland (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and partly in the beautiful Lune Valley.
There are six churches in the Benefice: St. Peter’s, Leck; St John the Baptist, Tunstall; St Wilfrid’s, Melling; St. James the Less, Tatham; Holy Trinity, Wray; and The Church of the Good Shepherd, Tatham Fells. The churches at Tatham Fells (our most southerly church) and Leck (our most northerly church) are over 12 miles apart.
We have three church primary schools at Leck, Melling and Tatham Fells and one non-church primary school at Wray.
There are two part-time clergy living in the Benefice, one retired Canon, and three Readers, who between them conduct a service in nearly every church each week.

Safeguarding
The Parishes of the Benefit of East Lonsdale are committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Blackburn's safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO Jennifer Brook-Thompson t. 07794 464942 or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor https://www.blackburn.anglican.org/reporting-a-safeguarding-concern. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
