St Lawrence

Welcome to our Church!  We hope that you will be able to find all the information you need, but if there is anything else, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to help you.

St. Lawrence's is a Norman Church but was possibly built on the site of a Saxon church before that and it is has a bell tower with 6 bells.

We are a very welcoming Church and would love to see you at our services.  Our services vary and aim to be inclusive, as we want everyone to feel at home.  Refreshments are served after the service so that we can have a chat and a catch up.

Luckily for us, we are one of the very few churches to have a full choir and team of bell ringers to enhance our worship, along with many volunteers who are happy to help in order to to keep the church open.  These include a rota of cleaners and flower arrangers, choir singers and bell ringers, people willing to read a lesson, lead prayers (intercessions), sides-people and coffee makers.

We have a beautiful churchyard, particularly during the Spring when we have an abundance of primroses and daffodils, and we have two wildlife areas. Again, we are lucky to have a team of people who keep the churchyard looking neat and tidy and we are in the process of becoming an Eco friendly church.

Different events and concerts are held in the Church at different times of the year and we are in the process of re-decoration, after extensive building work, and hope to remove some of the Pews to allow us to have more space to hold events.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Westbury sub Mendip is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Bath & Wells’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO. Maggie Goodbody at [email protected] or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
